Flag

The Haitian Flag has two parallel stripes in the background, on top it is blue and on the bottom is red. Then in the middle there is a coat of arms. Although that is not how it always was. In the very beginning the Haitian flag looked like the French Tricolors to symbolize the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen. Then in 1803, the white strip was taken out of the flag to only represent the Blacks and Mulattoes. After that, different independent Haitian states used their own flag of either horizontal or vertical stripes and a unique coat of arms in the center. When Franc̦ois Duvalier came into power he made it so that all the flags were the same and created a new coat of arms for the middle. The coat of arms consisted of cannons, rifles, anchors, masts, flags, and a palm tree with the cap of liberty on top.

Infographic and Economy

The country of Haiti is relatively poor. With a GDP per capita of only 3,000 dollars a year, Haiti has become one of the poorest countries in the world and is ranked 196th in the world for GDP per capita. For example, the Dominican Republic’s GDP per capita is 23,000 dollars a year, almost 8 times Haiti’s. And it seems that Haiti’s poverty will not go away in a long time because of its debt to France, which makes it so that Haiti can not make enough money to sustain its economy. So, Haiti’s GDP growth rate at -1,68%. The two main parts of Haiti’s economy are Agriculture and Trade. Even though the climate in Haiti is not ideal for farming, over half of the land in Haiti is used for agriculture. Haiti’s farms produce fruits, cocoa, and rice, all of which are traded to neighboring countries and the US. In total, Haiti trades clothes, fruits, and oils. Haiti receives mostly vehicles, clothes, and food. This can be a problem because if Haiti gets most of its food from other countries and doesn’t have enough food already in the country, then the people could be in trouble if there is no trade for a long time. Overall, Haiti’s economy is not doing well and needs lots of time and work put into it to make it successful again.
